After being a guest in her home for six days, I had observed so much. She told me a typical day had her on her feet for 10 hours. She hummed either to her own tune or to the Alexa playing in the background.
She moved from task to task, joyfully, eagerly. Her brain was ever-alert to the sounds around her, the thoughts moving through her mind, the people in her midst. She responded with grace and wisdom, never delaying. This was life! She was alive!
Her home was Spirit-filled. I could feel it. When I awoke in the morning, the Spirit welcomed me to the new day. Coffee and conversation were waiting. No agenda, just friendship. No expectations. No judgment. Only love. This was evident in the way her partner and children extended love and hospitality, too. “You’re family.” What a blessing!
I left her home having absorbed much love and learning. To be welcomed so unconditionally, so lovingly was a gift. I wonder if there is not so much more room in the world to practice hospitality such as this. In our homes, our communities, our worship spaces.
I also learned how to live with more life, to allow the joy of the Spirit to fill my each and every day, randomly, spontaneously. I learned to not delay when new thoughts spark, when tasks arise. I learned to move more, not to burn calories, but to bring inspiration. I learned to have dance parties when my favorite song comes on Alexa, to not waste the moment.
I am full of gratitude for the love and wisdom that surrounds me. And may it be so with you.
