Glitter and Goodness

The world is beginning to dull from the sparkle and shine of the glitter of the season. It is a reminder of the shortened days that steal the light from us. Ever since that dreaded turn-of-the-clocks, we wake in darkness and come home in darkness.
While we try as we might to make this a season of cozy, sometimes that furry blanket and lovely scented candle just are not enough. We yearn for the glitter that escapes even the vacuum cleaner.
Anything that relieves us from the weight of darkness.
Recently, I met a young man whose goal is to make people feel good, to relieve them from their weight of darkness. It wasn’t in a church or doctor’s office, but instead at a nail salon. As I sat in the massage chair getting a pedicure, enjoying the drumming on my tension-filled back, I asked this kind young man, “Why this profession? What do you enjoy about nails?”
Caleb humbly told me that he only wanted to make people feel better, feel good. That’s why he loves doing what he does, as he gently massaged my feet and my calves. He told me that as long as he could remember, he knew that no matter what he did, he wanted to make people feel good. Lovely, absolutely lovely.
I give thanks for the Calebs in this world, and the grace to encounter them. I give thanks for the unrelenting glimmers of glitter that shine in the darkness. May you know both.
